Common fixes

Adding the book you're listening to

Tap the plus on Now and search for it, or type the title yourself. You can also share a book to Earshelf straight from Audible, Libby, Spotify or Apple Books, and Earshelf files it the next time you open it.

How Earshelf knows the time left

Earshelf doesn't play audiobooks, so it counts the listening you log. Tap +15 min or +30 min on Now, use the widget or ask Siri to log listening time in Earshelf. To catch up in one go, tap Update and type the time left your player shows. Earshelf works out the rest at your speed.

Why Earshelf can't see my library's copies

Earshelf shows what you have recorded, links to a search on each service, and reads prices from Apple Books. It does not read your private Audible, Libby, Spotify or Everand library. A book you share from one of those apps records that source. Check current availability in the service.

Planning your listening

Open Listening plan from Now and set your daily minutes and listening days. Current books appear automatically. Add Want to listen books from their pages or Choose next, then use Queue options to change the order of any planned book. The plan shares your available time across those books and checks recorded loan dates. Dates are estimates. Check exact return times in your library app.

Seven day planning is free. Pro adds fourteen and thirty day plans. Finish calculator previews a speed and finish date without changing your progress.

Spotify allowance hours

Enter the allowance included with your own plan and region. Spotify counts normal-speed book time, even when you listen faster. An hour at 2x uses two hours of book time. Earshelf keeps this allowance separate from real listening time in your plan and statistics. Check Spotify's allowance rules.

Finding a saved thought

Save a thought from Now or add a note on a book's page. Listening notebook searches notes across your library. Notes marked with spoilers stay covered until you choose to reveal them.

Reviewing subscriptions

Open Before you pay again under Find. Record your plan's cost and renewal date to see upcoming charges alongside credits and logged listening. Currencies remain separate. Manage each subscription with its service.

Price alerts

With Earshelf Pro, Earshelf checks Apple Books prices for the books on your Want to listen shelf in the background. It tells you when one reaches its lowest price so far or the target you set on the book's page.

Reminders

Earshelf reminds you two days before a library loan is due and a week before an Audible credit expires. It also reminds you two weeks before a library card runs out and on the day you're likely to finish a book. Titles stay off the Lock Screen unless you turn on Show titles in notifications in Settings.

iCloud

Earshelf keeps your library in your own iCloud account, so it matches on your iPhone and iPad. You can turn this off in Settings, and the change applies the next time Earshelf opens.

Canceling

Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select Earshelf Pro or Earshelf Patron to manage or cancel it. When it ends you keep everything you've logged, and you can still export it. Planning returns to seven days. Price alerts stop and the full statistics close until you subscribe again.
